I was ecstatic to receive an ARC of You, Again? by Nick Spalding from Netgalley。 Spalding is my go to author when I need a funny slapstick type read。 He did not disappoint with You, Again? We meet Joel, who is embarking on a vacation to the Maldives, with his girlfriend, Cara。 While at the airport he sees his ex-wife, Amy and her boyfriend, Ray。 And wouldn't you know it they are all on the same flight going to the same small island for a holiday。 Joel and Amy did not end on amicable terms。 To say I was ecstatic to receive an ARC of You, Again? by Nick Spalding from Netgalley。 Spalding is my go to author when I need a funny slapstick type read。 He did not disappoint with You, Again? We meet Joel, who is embarking on a vacation to the Maldives, with his girlfriend, Cara。 While at the airport he sees his ex-wife, Amy and her boyfriend, Ray。 And wouldn't you know it they are all on the same flight going to the same small island for a holiday。 Joel and Amy did not end on amicable terms。 To say they are less than thrilled to see each other is an understatement。 Instead of ignoring each other they start pulling pranks on each other trying to one up the misery the other has caused。 Until things come to a head and the truth of what really happened at the end of their marriage and work partnership comes out。 I was not expecting the twist the author threw in explaining that situation! I knew there would be something with one of the other characters, but this was not it。 Kudos to Spalding as I usually figure out plot twists from the first ten pages。 I enjoyed the story told in alternating view points between Joel and Amy。 Each voice felt unique。 What I love most about Spalding's books is that he keeps the plot moving! There is no repeating situations when the point of view changes。 And no long passages about nothing happening。 Authors who spend pages describing a meal or how a scene looks drag the story down。 Spalding keeps the action coming and doesn't let up。 If you need a fun read with entertaining characters grab a copy of You, Again? Joel and Amy are perfect companions for one last summer getaway! 。。。more

Mostly utterly predictable, but the hi-jinks Joel and Amy get up to in attempts to on up the other make it funny enough to be enjoyable。

Once again we are offered a quirky not so ordinary situation type story。 I love this author for that and always look forward to his books。 This one gave us a couple of ex-spouses that happen to take the same vacation with their new partners。 That should have been the foundation for some great hijinks。 And the book was cute but a bit grating and tiresome。 I felt like it got bogged down a bit in the middle with the revenge and mentally rehashing what had happened to the two main characters when th Once again we are offered a quirky not so ordinary situation type story。 I love this author for that and always look forward to his books。 This one gave us a couple of ex-spouses that happen to take the same vacation with their new partners。 That should have been the foundation for some great hijinks。 And the book was cute but a bit grating and tiresome。 I felt like it got bogged down a bit in the middle with the revenge and mentally rehashing what had happened to the two main characters when they were partners and spouses。 The comedic moments didn't quite hit their mark and were instead that harsh humor based on hurting someone instead of being funny。 I liked that the ending was not what I was expecting。 That was a nice relief。 But I think my biggest reason I didn't give it more stars was Ray。 Poor sweet sucker Ray。 That man in his little white shorts was too good to be true。 How much was he going to take? (If that's what you're looking for, you might find it on You Deserve Each Other by Sarah Hogle)。 But if you’re looking for a non-romance book with an ex-spouse reunion to finally settle their differences, even if only after so many conflicts along the way, You again? is the right book for you。I gave this book 2 stars instead of 1 because it's not the book I requested, or at least it's not what I thought I requested and this confusion did not allow me to like the book as it is, but I think that if the synopsis was true to the book I could have had way more fun with it。 。。。more

That was this couple。 They behaved like literal children。 Right off the bat, the hero and heroine were calling each other names, causing fights in public, constantly being super passive aggressive in their minds, letting their negative vibe take over their entire day, doing these "comical" bits where they would hide behind plants or underneath tables to avoid each other like this is some early 2000s disney channel movie, etc。 The worst part? Their divorce could have easily been solved by communication and maturity, which neither of them possessed。 If I am being honest, I did not want them to end up together because they were so immature and had zero chemistry。 I felt bad for the guy who ends up with the heroine, he was way to understanding and mature for her。 I was super creeped out by how the hero's new girlfriend was 10+ years younger than him and he was consistenlty being described as old and wrinkly with a receding hairline or something like that。 He would also mention how he can't wait to see his girlfriend in tiny clothing in the weirdest way。 Don't get me wrong, I am not against an age gap romance, especially with a dilf or a nice guy with a dad bod。 I am in no way trying to body shame or age shame the hero。 (One of my favorite heroes, Martin from Olivia Dade's Teach Me is an average looking man with a dad bod in his 40s。 So looks and age aren't an issue)。 The way they were described made me envision a slimy, subpar white male with a bitchy, milf-wannabe girl。 Their dynamic was so off putting。 Don't even get me started on the girlfriend。 It was very evident from the way she talked and behaved that she was significantly younger than him。 In age gap romances, I need maturity from both parties。 The worst part? The young girlfriend was secretly sabatoging the hero and heroine's relationship the whole time。 I mean, really? I am so tired of the "bitchy younger girlfriend" stereotype。 If the hero and heroine would have just communicated then they could have resolved their issues。 I just can't with this book。 I normally don't get this upset over a book, but I did not like it at all。 But I am an advocate for writing holistic reviews, to try and find the best in every book。 So I guess I will say this, the book does do a good job of being an "anti-romance" I guess。 Despite the divorced couple being the hero and heroine, just because they were married once does not mean they have to end up together。 It does a good job of showing how to identify when you really aren't made for a person and how to let yourself be ok with that and find happiness elsewhere。 That is, honestly, an extremely valuable lesson to learn。I wish this book gets better marketed so it doesn't end up in the hands of someone expecting a romance because of the way it was advertised。 I do thank Amazon Publishing, Nick Spalding, and NetGalley for an eARC in exchange for my honest opinion, but this book is a pass for me。 。。。more

Just say you need to pee! Either way, I would prefer sentencing this differently because I really do not care if the heroine shits or not。 Just say she's going to the bathroom!Second is the judgement/prejudices。 I cannot stand them。Case in point: "It’s just that the Maldives obviously has a habit of breeding people of a youthful disposition。。。""These are two young people, who really have no business being here。 He looks about twenty-five, and if she’s more than twenty I’d be surprised。 This is awful。 People of that age should not have access to this kind of holiday。 It’s something you should have to strive towards for a good decade or two before you can afford it – and then only barely with Expedia concessions。 But these two don’t look like they’ve done a day’s work in their lives。 They must have rich parents。 Or be YouTubers。 That’s how young people get rich these days, isn’t it? They change their hairstyles, or throw themselves at plate glass windows on YouTube。"Because young people shouldn't go on holidays and enjoy themselves???Third are inner dialogues。 So many of them!Anyway, I can't read this book anymore。 It's not working for me。2 stars。 ARC provided via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review。 All opinions are of my own。 。。。more

Rebecca Rowlands,
YEEESS。 I havent met a Nick Spalding book that I dont like and this again was a smash hit for me。 The characters are always so loveable, but idiots, and the situations they get themselves into are so human that I can just picture it happening to any of my friends, which makes me laugh even more。 I love how the story moves between perspectives of the two exes and the story moves at a decent pace throughout。 A very easy read suitable for just about anyone。
Mindy Christianson,
Quick, fun read with a great ending。 I found myself laughing out loud a couple times! Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC。
